Julian Spencer from B&R Enclosures
Julian Spencer is Business Development Manager at B&R Enclosures. This Queensland company supplies standard and custom-built enclosures, data racks, cabinets and electrical integration solutions for a wide range of industry and residential uses.
B&R Enclosures is a proud family business that was started by Dick Bridges in 1955. Operating out of his backyard, Dick started off in sheet metal fabrication, making products like domestic enclosures for electrical house meters—still used in many Queensland homes.
Now B&R has offices in every state including the head-office and major manufacturing site located in Heathwood in southern Brisbane and a warehouse in Townsville.
Julian joined the team at the Brisbane office over 15 years ago as an industrial designer—learning the intricate details of B&R’s products. Working his way up to Business Development Manager, Julian now works with client groups, like defence, to understand customer applications and create innovative solutions.
B&R’s extensive supply chain capabilities mean that the team is able to service some of the largest companies around the world—including the defence industry.
Some of the major projects include prototyping ruggedised hardware for communication equipment, and the design and manufacture of critical brackets for use in the high-capacity, line-of-sight radio and video-conferencing equipment for Boeing Defence Australia.
“For over 65 years, B&R has built a reputation for excellence in the design and manufacture of enclosures, cabinet and equipment technology integration solutions.
“Widening our capability to service a variety of industries, like defence, provides the opportunity to stay at the cutting-edge of technology and learn new skills and processes that will keep us in good stead as advanced manufacturing continues to transform our work.
“At B&R, everything we learn over time provides the knowledge that we build on and use, to improve our products and services, and to create new, innovative solutions.
“This is bolstered by our commitment to provide rewarding career paths. Whether employees are recent school leavers or labourers, right up to graduates and professionals—further education and personal development is encouraged and supported.”
Julian is just one of the faces of defence industries in Queensland. This sector provides thousands of jobs for Queenslanders, so we’re helping it grow even stronger.
