Rheinmetall Defence Australia is establishing its Australia-New Zealand Headquarters and Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Redbank, Ipswich. The facility is located within the Redbank Motorway Estate, an industrial area close to supply chain partners and part of South East Queensland's established heavy-vehicle precinct.
The MILVEHCOE will be the most advanced military vehicle manufacturing facility of its type in Australia. The facility will include:
- manufacturing, electronics and administration buildings
- a training centre
- an enclosed weapons test firing range
- an electromagnetic compatibility chamber
- a vehicle test track.
The state-of-the-art facility will accommodate the design and manufacture of vehicles, turrets, armour, electro-optics, electronics, simulation and other advanced systems.
The Queensland Government is using its expertise in the delivery of large capital works projects to oversee the construction of the MILVEHCOE on Rheinmetall’s behalf. Ipswich City Council approved the development application for the MILVEHCOE on 29 March 2018.
Watpac is the Managing Contractor and is responsible for managing the tendering and awarding of suppliers and subcontractors for works. Watpac commenced construction in November 2018 and phased practical completion of construction will occur from early 2020.
