New defence industry export award recognises queensland s outstanding capability

New defence industry export award recognises Queensland's outstanding capability

The prestigious Premier of Queensland Export Awards will have a defence industry category for the first time this year.

Announced by the Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment, the Honourable Curtis Pitt, the Defence Industry Award will “recognise outstanding achievement in designing, manufacturing and adapting world-class products or services to meet military requirements globally.”

The creation of the new defence award recognises the extensive defence industry capability in Queensland across the land, air, sea and innovation sectors and their contribution to the state's economy with $3.8 billion in defence contracts awarded to Queensland-registered companies in 2015-16.

“The new award means there are now four state-based awards and 12 industry awards, which will be announced at the awards ceremony in Brisbane on 19 October.

“To submit a winning application, companies can make use of a special application assistance program offered by the Export Council of Australia,” Mr Pitt said.
