Kim Gillis appointed Defence's New Deputy Secretary CASG

Former senior Defence official, Kim Gillis, is returning to government after four years at Boeing to head the Department of Defence's new Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG).

CASG is responsible for purchasing and maintaining military equipment and supplies, and was established to replace the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), which was discontinued following the Australian Government's First Principles Review of Defence.

Mr Gillis served as deputy CEO of the DMO before joining Boeing in 2010. Prior to that, he worked for WA-based global shipbuilding and Defence prime contracting company, Austal. Mr Gillis is a qualified Master Mariner.
