From humble beginnings in the pioneering days of powered flight, when QANTAS was founded in Winton in 1920, Queensland is on its way to becoming an Asia-Pacific aerospace powerhouse. With significant capabilities in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), world-leading expertise in emerging fields such as unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and hypersonics, and highly-skilled workforces creating quality products, the opportunities for growth are considerable.
The Queensland Aerospace 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan ( 7.3 MB), part of the Advance Queensland initiative, is the Queensland Government’s plan to capitalise on the opportunities available to Queensland aerospace businesses. It will accelerate the pace of growth in both the civilian and defence aerospace sectors, and help them to create the high paid, sustainable jobs of the future.
Our vision is that by 2028, the Queensland aerospace industry will be recognised as a leading centre in Australasia and South East Asia for aerospace innovation in training; niche manufacturing; MRO; and UAS applications for military and civil markets. This will be achieved through a range of actions across three strategies:
- grow Queensland’s aerospace industry and create high-skilled jobs
- enhance Queensland’s level of aerospace industry capability to access new global supply chain opportunities and international markets
- promote Queensland as a preferred destination for aerospace capability locally and globally
